How to Join a Zoom Meeting

Confused about getting onto Zoom to take part in one of our virtual classes, programs, or worship services?
These step-by-step instructions should tell you everything you need to know to be up-and-running!

What is Zoom?

Zoom is a platform that allows us to meet - virtually.
All of Temple Sinai's new virtual classes and worship services
run via Zoom.

While the service has been available for several years, we realize that not everyone in our congregation is familiar with Zoom and how it works.

Zoom Step-By-Step

Although we refer to our virtual events as classes, programs, or worship services, Zoom calls them "meetings."
Meetings can be viewed on any electronic device: desktop or laptop computers, tablets (such as iPad, Microsoft Surface, or Samsung Galaxy Tab), and smartphones (iphone or Android).

In order to join a Zoom meeting on any device, you will need to install an application (app) onto that device.
Zoom has a Download Center on its website with links to these applications: https://zoom.us/download

To join from a mobile device (Android or Apple tablet or smartphone), scroll down the Zoom download page until you see this:

Then click on Apple for iPad/iPhone or Google Play for Android devices, and download the Zoom Cloud Meetings App.

This is what you will see at the Apple App Store:

And this is what you will see at Google Play:

To join from a desktop or laptop computer (either Mac or PC), download the Zoom Client for Meetings, which is very easy to use. It is the first option on the Zoom download page:

Click on the blue download button and follow the prompts to install the application onto your computer.

There are several other downloads available at the Zoom Download Center, but all you need to view our classes and services is to have the correct application installed.

Every class, program, and worship service has a Zoom link associated with it. The links for our weekly classes and services can be found on our website here: https://www.mysinai.org/virtual-learning-clergy.

Here are two examples that show you exactly where these Zoom links can be found:

The Zoom links are also included in every email we send about the virtual programs:

If you click on any Zoom link and have not yet downloaded the application  and installed it on your device, you will be prompted to do so.

Each meeting also has a unique Meeting ID number that is required to join the Zoom session. Once you have installed the application on your device, you can simply enter the Meeting ID in the space provided. Here is a sample of what the application window looks like on a Mac desktop:

All you need to do is click the Join button (top right) and then you will get a pop-up window like this one:

Simply enter the meeting ID in the top box. Your name should automatically populate if you set it up when you completed the installation of the application.

Once you hit join you will see yourself on video and be asked if you want to utilize your camera during the class (you do have the option to have the camera off; you will still be able to see others who have chosen the video option).

If you still have questions, click the image below to view a short video that reviews how to join a meeting:

You can also join a test meeting to better familiarize yourself with the application by clicking here https://zoom.us/test.
To test your device audio, click here. To test your camera, click here.

Finally, for some classes and services, you also have the option to dial in. This is a simple, audio only way to participate. To call in, simply dial the phone number provided and enter the Meeting ID when prompted.

We look forward to seeing you soon!
